Evening Out Skin Tone

If you have sun-damaged skin that is marred with brown spots and broken blood vessels, intense pulse light (IPL), or laser treatments, can help improve your skin’s tone and texture. The procedures involve the use of a light-treatment tool or laser over the skin, one section at a time. The light or laser beam converts to heat only when it reaches the middle level of the skin (the dermis), leaving the upper layer untouched. IPL emits a broad spectrum of light that targets brown spots and reddened areas. Because the procedure is very precise, there is little risk of additional cell damage. The laser’s heat also encourages new collagen development, which helps to plump up wrinkles.

P.S. Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy utilizes a computer-controlled lamp that emits light pulses in different intensities, which penetrate the skin at certain depths and for certain durations.

Upon Closer Inspection

Those with a high risk of developing melanoma are strongly advised to undergo routine screenings that utilize “dermoscopy,” a non-invasive microscopic evaluation of skin lesions. New research shows that following this proactive approach can result in earlier diagnosis and treatment of the potentially deadly form of skin cancer. People at high risk for melanoma include those with fair skin, blond/red hair, blue eyes, freckles, and/or a family history of the disease. It also includes those who have been exposed to artificial UV-A radiation or who have experienced severe sunburns, especially during childhood. When individuals in these high-risk groups undergo dermoscopy, melanomas are discovered at earlier stages when the tumors are thinner and have not yet spread beyond their initial sites.

P.S. Routine screening for skin cancer should be regarded as seriously and conscientiously as colon cancer screenings and mammograms.
