Patients interested in treating deep nasolabial folds (also known as “laugh lines”) with injectable fillers may want to consider Artefill® dermal filler. The chief advantage of this hybrid gel filler is that, unlike other fillers with ingredients that are gradually reabsorbed by the body, Artefill® provides long-lasting and maybe even permanent results. Artefill® consists of millions of synthetic microspheres of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) that are suspended in purified bovine (cow) collagen and can only be removed surgically. Aside from their long-lasting attributes, these microspheres stimulate the production of collagen, which is the primary structural protein found in the skin. Artefill® has also been used off-label for lip augmentation and to treat acne scars and wrinkles other than laugh lines.
P.S. Because Artefill® contains bovine collagen, prospective users must submit to an allergy test prior to use.
