Botox and Dysport are great treatment options for patients that want a subtle change that leaves them looking younger and refreshed. They are considered extremely safe “wrinkle relaxers” and one of the most non-invasive and popular wayrs to reduce wrinkles caused by the repeated contractions of facial muscles. These products share the same active ingredient, botulinum toxin type A, which termporarily prevents treated muscles from contracting thereby smoothening the overlying skin. These products are so safe that they are even used in infants that have movement disorders, such as cerebral palsy.
Versatile Treatments: The areas around the eyes, forehead, and mouth are the most expressive areas of the face. These are the most common areas treated but Botox and Dysport can be used in many different areas to achieve aesthetic improvement. These areas include:
- Forehead creases
- Crow’s feet
- Creases between the eyes
- Neck bands
- Bunny lines
- Masseter/temporalis muscles
- Chin dimpling
- Upper lip wrinkles
- Down turned mouth corners
- Eye brow lifting
- Gummy smile
What is the difference between Botox and Dysport?
Botox and Dysport are both wonderful products, often described like pepsi and coca cola. Botox has significant name recognition as it has been around for quite some time, but Dysport is equally as safe and effective although newer. There are a few other smaller differences which will be explained at time of consultation where a team member will work together with you to pick the perfect products.
What is the treatment like?
These treatments are easy and relatively pain free. A treatment with these can take as little as 10 minutes and can be easily squeezed into a busy lifestyle. We apply a thin topical cream to the areas being treated and use a tiny needle to inject small amounts of Botox/Dysport into the muscles that contract and cause wrinkling. You’ll be able to see improvement within a week and smoother skin can last between 3-5 months.
Even though the treatment is easy and the recovery and side effects are minimal, you still want to be careful. You will want to stay upright for a few hours and avoid touching areas of injection. Please discontinue blood thinners before treatment.
