As we get older, our bodies and faces age. We lose bone mass as well as volume in the face and we trend towards having faces that are thin with sagging skin and sunken temples. Fortunately, with Sculptra, we have a way to replace volume lost with aging and a tool to prevent further transformation.
What is Sculptra Aesthetic?
Sculptra Aesthetic is a solution comprised of particles that promote your own body’s production of collagen. When injected into the face, it creates a response from your body that results in collagen formation and replaces lost volume. It is used in people that have healthy immune systems with no history of auto-immune disorders. It can be used for correction of shallow to very deep folds and is a natural, non-invasive way to keep looking young and fresh.
Sculptra can treat:
- Hollow cheeks
- Sunken temples
- Jaw countor
- Undefined chin
- Nasolabial folds
How is Sculptra different from the dermal fillers?
Although Sculptra and dermal fillers are similar in the sense that their goal is to replace volume loss, Sculptra does so through a different mechanism. Most dermal fillers replace volume through placement of hyaluronic acid (HA) which is a gel-like substance that fills wrinkles and takes up space. Sculptra Aesthetic, on the other hand, stimulates the body to create it’s own collagen to replace volume loss. It effectively maintains youth and helps prevent the aging process. Maintenance is needed as with any dermal filler.
What is treatment like?
Sculptra is injected with some amount of water and lidocaine with the same non-invasive and safe cannula technique that is used with dermal fillers. Topical numbing cream is applied and discomfort is minimal. Immediately after treatment, you will see increased volume in the areas injected(most patients wish it would stay!) which will decrease over the next 24 hours. The collagen that Sculptra stimulates is created over 4-6 weeks, so results are subtle and seen with time and comparison pictures. The collagen created by Sculptra lasts for up to 2 years although maintenance treatment is highly recommended.
